Last summer I announced that I wanted to write a WooCommerce E-book. Since then Packt Publishing reached out to me and I worked with them to create an outline, write the manuscript, and revise the book several times. Ten months later the book is finally up for sale on both Packt Publishing & Amazon. God it feels good to press the publish button. 🙂
The Book
The book contains just under 100 “recipes” which are step by step tutorials to do common tasks in WooCommerce. These range from simple tasks like adding a simple product to the more complex tasks like adding social media icons to your product pages. Some of the more advanced include code snippets. Interwoven through the recipes are tons of tips and best practices which can save you tons of time if you run into a road block.
There's a full description on the WooCommerce Cookbook page.
Why I Decided to Write the Book
I wrote this post to announce the book (duh) but also share some of my motivation behind writing the book. The main reason is that there isn't a lot of distilled WooCommerce information. It's scattered everywhere and you have to search for it. You'll hear WooCommerce mentioned in passing at WordCamps and you'll get little tid-bits from someone who set it up for a client but rarely can you really dig in. And if you're picking a platform to generate thousands of dollars for you don't want want to have all of that information in one place? I wanted to filter through all of the information and deliver a curated list of tasks in WooCommerce.
The second reason is that it's a challenge and I love challenges. Precisely because one of the people I look up to said that he wouldn't write a book because of the enormity of the task that made me want to do it even more.
At some point I'll write a post recounting my experience working with a publisher. There are definitely some tips that I can share in that regard. For right now though take a look at the book and if you are thinking about using WooCommerce as your e-commerce platform you should take a look at the book. You can buy the book or read a sample chapter on the Packt Publishing website.
